So You Want to be an Expert Witness?

The Center for Professional Solutions is hosting this continuing education workshop to be presented by Christina A Pietz, PhD, ABPP on Friday, February 20, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

This workshop will consist of a morning didactic presentation of the learning objectives. The afternoon continuation will be a panel discussion with Dr Pietz; James England, US Magistrate; Michele Nahon, Federal Public Defender; and David Rush, Federal Prosecuting Attorney.

Dr. Pietz earned her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. She is board certified in forensic psychology and has worked as a forensic psychologist at the United States Medical Center for over 18 years. In that capacity, she has completed over 500 court ordered reports andhas testified in federal, state, and military court.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Make an informed decision to engage in a forensic evaluation.
  2. Understand the implications of the Federal Rules of Evidence for expert testimony.
  3. Reference case law governing expert testimony.
  4. Adequately prepare for direct and cross examination.
  5. Identify potential ethical dilemmas of concern for psychologists completing forensic evaluations.
