Dr. Downie Attends Play Therapy Conference
Dr. Tara Downie, Forest faculty, attended the International Play Therapy Conference in
Atlanta,
Ga., on October 8 - October 10, 2009.
She had the pleasure of listening to presenters such as Garry Landreth from UNT on client-centered play therapy, Kevin O’Conner from
Alliant
International
University on Ecosystemic Play Therapy, Terry Kottman from
Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Adlerian Play Therapy and Lois Carey from
Upper Gradview, NY, on Sandtray Therapy.
“It is incredible to be able to hear the theory from these presenters as they are either first generation or second generation theorists,” Downie said.
Dr. Downie also went to a workshop on Theraplay, which is used to care for children with attachment issues, like children in foster care. Downie added, “Besides the many vendors, it is fun to be with such creative and passionate professionals from all over the world. I am really looking forward to integrating this information in our child course offerings here at
Forest!”
