The Francis D. Jones Library is located on the Springfield campus of the Forest Institute.
The St. Louis site will have a library service point with a limited onsite reference collection. St. Louis students will have full borrowing privileges for materials in the Francis D. Jones Library as well as other libraries within SWAN and MOBIUS. The St. Louis site will be a MOBIUS courier stop (date TBD). A library orientation and tour is usually offered during the first two weeks of each Fall term on the Springfield campus. There is a sign-up sheet in the library. The orientation and tour is given by a Library staff member and usually lasts about 45 minutes. It is split up between a tour of the physical facility as well as a brief demonstration of the Forest Library Catalog and our most frequently used article database PsycINFO.
Students who enroll during another Term or who missed the scheduled tours can request an orientation and tour at any time. To schedule a one-on-one appointment, please contact Nan Hadley, Library Services Manager at 417-823-3448 or email
.
Research consultations are available for students who wish to discuss a research paper or thesis topic in-depth.

Book Collection
Materials in the Forest Library collection focus primarily on clinical psychology and the various subject areas associated with the various clusters and tracks. The Library has over 6,200 books in its general collection.
In addition, we have three collections in the Library that have a narrow subject focus: Integrated Health Care Reference, Jung collection and Freud collection. Books with a more historical or archival focus are placed in Special Collections. All these collections will be noted in the SWAN Library Catalog.
Our non-circulating reference collection contains subject specific dictionaries handbooks, encyclopedias as well as other reference sources.
Newly acquired books are shelved on our New Books Shelf for at least 30 days. These books can be checked out for one week to Forest students and for two weeks to Forest faculty or staff. New Books cannot be renewed. After 30 days, the books are shelved in their permanent collections.
Please ask staff at the Library Front Desk if you need help locating one of our books.
Forest Thesis and Dissertation Collection
Forest theses (tape-bound) and dissertations (bound) are shelved separately. Both collections are arranged by the author's last name. These materials do not circulate. On the bottom thesis shelf, there is a spreadsheet inventory of all theses and dissertations for browsing purposes. The Library is working on gradually adding thesis and dissertations to our Library Catalog.
Journal Collection
The Library holds about 195 journals and newspaper titles but only a handful are active subscriptions. The journals are located in stacks against the west wall of the Library in alphabetical order by title.
Video Collection
The Library has over 500 videos (both VHS and DVD) in its collection. Up to 5 video titles can be borrowed for 3 days at a time. They are arranged mostly by Library of Congress call number with a small section at the end which is alphabetically arranged.
The Library has an A-V area at the back of the library for viewing VHS tapes or DVD discs. DVDs can be viewed also on most computer workstations. Headphones can be signed out at the Library Front Desk.
Multimedia Collection
We have 2 brain models available which are for library use only. Other multimedia items we hold are an articulated skeleton and an anatomical model.
Test Collection
Psychological tests and instruments are located in locked Library filing cabinets or in the Library front office. Test materials are usually checked out in association with class work. In these cases, your instructor will determine the loan period for the materials. In general, these materials do not circulate. If you need to consult a test, come see the staff at the Library Front Desk since we will have to unlock the cabinets for you.

Library Fax Machine
The library fax machine will accept faxes for students. Library staff can also send out faxes for students. Fax cover sheets are in the wall holder. Keep in mind that staff may not be able to send your fax immediately. Please indicate if you will need a fax confirmation or not. The library's fax number is 417-823-3443.
Library Copiers
We have 2 networked copier/printers (one has a document feeder; the other has a book-friendly attachment) as well as 2 dedicated printers. You will need a photocopy account code to make any photocopies in the library. The charge per page for copies and prints is $0.05 per page (which covers the cost of paper, printing and machine maintenance). Please see Cathy Waller to get a code or if you have problems with your code. To clear your account code after you've finished copying, press the Lock/Management button on the display panel. A stapler and staple remover should be located near the copiers.
Dissertation PCs and Printers
These PCs and local printer are reserved for thesis and dissertation work ONLY. You must supply your own special bond paper for printing your theses and dissertations. If the PCs and printers are in demand, you can elect to sign up for a designated time slot to work on your thesis or dissertation (see notebook next to one of the PCs).
Networked Printers
Sending a print job from one of the library PCs requires logging in to the PC first with your network user name and password. This is how you will be billed for your prints ($0.05 per page). You can select any one of four networked printers as the destination for your print job. The number of the printer you select will also be posted on the printer itself. If your print does not come through, please ask staff at the Library Front Desk for assistance. They will help troubleshoot the problem. Try to refrain from sending multiple print jobs to the printer. If they all end up printing, you'll be responsible for paying for all the prints. Any unclaimed prints are left in handout racks in the printer area for about a week and then are recycled. A electric pencil sharpener and electric hole punch are located next to the printers.
Springfield campus
The Library has 22 computer workstations which have access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, access to local network drives for saving your files and access to class-related software such as Rorschach Scan and SPSS. Each workstation has a Windows login for lab – you do NOT need a password. Just press the Enter key.
Occasionally, the Library workstations will be used during designated times reserved for a particular class (like Statistics). Signs will be posted on each monitor indicating times the PC may not be available. Not every workstation will be in use during these times but be aware that the PC you may be using may need to be used.
All the computers have drives which will accept CDs (and most can accept DVDs). All have USB ports for your flash drives. None of them have 3.5” diskette drives. Files saved to the desktop or My Documents folder are deleted every night. Do NOT save your work locally. Save it instead to a network drive or onto a CD or USB device.
A scanner is attached to one of the computer workstations located next to the General Collection stacks. Instructions for use is next to the scanner.
We have secure wireless access available in the Library. For access, you must see either Cathy Waller or Andrea Tunia in IT. They will be able to give you the code to access the wireless network in the Academic Building.
Springfield campus
The Library Front Desk is where you would 1) check out, renew or return your library materials (e.g. books, A-V or course reserve materials); 2) clear your library fines; 3) pick up books requested from SWAN or MOBIUS; 4) pick up interlibrary loan articles; and 3) ask general or research-related questions.
When you are ready to check out library materials, present them to the staff member at the front desk. You must present your current Forest ID badge to check out or renew library materials.
There is a book drop on the outside of the counter. If someone is staffing the front desk, please hand your materials to them (instead of putting them in the book drop).

Permanent Exhibit
The Forest Library maintains an onoing exhibit of library books on how to "survive" the thesis and dissertation process. A sampling of books on the topic from the Forest Library collection are placed on display on the large table across from the Library front desk. In addition, copies of a bibliography of relevant resources is also available next to the display. The contents of the bibliography are also available on the Thesis & Dissertation Resources page.

Students are encouraged to display their recently presented conference or seminar poster sessions on the Library's south wall. Please see Nan Hadley, Library Services Manager, for more details.
Recycling
Springfield campus
Non-secure recycling
There are two non-secure recycling bins at the end of the southern computer workstation row towards the back of the Library. One bin is designated for white office paper; the other is for colored office paper or newspapers. The bins are emptied once a week.
Secure recycling
You would need to use the secure recycling bin in the Faculty Lounge.
Shredding
You may ask a staff member at the Library Front Desk to shred a few pages for you. They will use the Library's small shredder which is kept in the back office.
For more than a few pages, please use secure recycling bin in the Faculty Lounge (materials placed in the bin are both shredded and recycled).
