Students Present at PERK Conference

Gage Stermensky II and Jacob Chavez say an ever-increasing need for behavioral medicine led them to present a diabetes protocol at this year's Psychological and Education Research in Kansas (PERK) Conference.

Stermensky II and Chavez presented a contingency management plan designed to address: diet management, physical activity, stress management, supportive resources, smoking cessation, and treatment of depression. The data form the program pilot study is currently being analyzed.

The Department of Psychology at Fort Hays State University hosted the 30th Annual PERK Conference in October of 2011.

The theme of this year's conference was "FLOW: Fueling Learning Opportunities Within". This theme was used as a statement to encourage students to create and seize their own learning opportunities through their college experience.

"The conference presents individuals in the midwest an opportunityto network and disseminate reserach. I'm grateful PERK accepted our submission," said Stermenky II.
