Adam Batchelder is not Scared to Talk about Religion with His Clients

Quick Interview with Adam Batchelder

Why did you choose Forest?

I like to say that I chose Forest on purpose. I looked at many graduate schools but there was something about the innovative spirit of the program and the family-oriented community of Springfield that let me know that this was exactly where I wanted to be.

What is your favorite thing about Forest, and why?

I love the Forest community. We are all here for the same purpose and, because of that commonality, we are able to unite. The students and faculty help, encourage and support one another in a cooperative effort to make a difference within the mental health field.

What is a moment in your academic career of which you are proud?

I was most honored to participate in a diversity seminar in which I was able to openly discuss my faith and belief system and the relation these may have with mental health.

Best thing about the faculty and student interaction at Forest?

The cooperative spirit fostered within the Forest community (students & faculty) provides an atmosphere where growth and experience can freely occur.

Why should a student choose Forest?

A student should only choose Forest if their primary desire is to become a mental health clinician. We are trained to serve the clients that entrust us with their care and that clinical training is what Forest does best. I would encourage those seeking a primary focus in other areas of the field to seek out other programs.

Fun questions to give a Forest/Springfield perspective to incoming students---

Favorite Springfield restaurant?

I love Mr. Yens. It is a massive restaurant that is most elegant and they serve some of the best Asian food in town. They even will serve their entrees family style, which is a big plus for our family of 6. The best part is that the price is set so even a graduate student can manage.

What is one thing everyone must do while in Springfield, and why?

You must visit Branson, a 45 minute drive south. The tourist town of Branson offers a family atmosphere with hundreds of stage shows, family-oriented museums, multiple mini-golf courses, 2 theme parks and a very diverse array of restaurants.

Best thing to do on a cheap date in Springfield?

Incredible Pizza offers an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, go-carts, bumper cars, huge arcade, mini-golf and a flight simulator. On certain days of the week, you can pay one price and have unlimited pizza and play.

Favorite story or aspect of life in Springfield?

I have really come to enjoy the unique religious atmosphere of Springfield. This atmosphere has provided a wonderful backdrop for my specific training psychology of religion.
